tokidoki will be featured as one 50 invited artists at the Custom Miao Show in San Diego from 14 November to 17 December. As we all know, Miao (and Mousubi) is the first collectible vinyl toy designed by Zakka and the first design has already been released (from tokidoki of course!). We’ll keep our eyes out for more details on the location of the show but it would be interesting to see what the custom design from tokidoki will be!

It’s the start of another week here at Tokidokizens and finally we managed to set some time aside to shoot some photos of the tokidoki Miao for your viewing pleasure. If you remember, we managed to purchase one from Earthx about a week ago - right before the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention. And boy were we lucky, because by the next day (morning) the tokidoki Miaos were all sold out! Not hard to see why as there’s a limited run of 500 pieces WORLDWIDE from the creator Zakkamono. Simone Legno is the first artist to design exterior of the Miao.

The packaging is pretty big due to the blister pack inside, but its pretty robust (just don’t go banging the box everywhere). Graphics on the box shows the Miao’s front and back as well as addition illustrations from the same theme (PUNK ROCK~!) with razors, pins, vinyls and the skull/heart + crossbones logo. In any case, we took no time in unpacking the tokidoki Miao and its companion Mousubi from the box and here it is!

It is currently the biggest toy in my collection - Miao stands at 7″ tall, Mousubi comes in at just under 3″. Being inspired by the Japanese lucky cat (or maneki neko), the Miao stands on a pair of Japanese clogs with its left hand held in the ‘welcoming luck’ position - those in Asia will know what I mean! Of course with a cat, you’ll need a mouse and Mousubi fits just that role pretty well. The Japanese influence continues as Mousubi is actually a Japanese rice ball (or onigiri) with a pair of ears and a cute wavy tail!

What a surprise! tokidoki Miao is here! We weren’t expecting to be able to see this particular toy here so soon, but nonetheless we managed to grab one for ourselves! Just to let you know how limited this edition is, EarthX only managed to get 4 pieces into Singapore (there’s only 500 pieces worldwide) and if I’m not wrong, there’s only two pieces available at the store as we speak/write.

The box is huge, Miao and Mousubi looks great so make sure you keep checking back to Tokidokizens to see pictures of them in their full glory when we come back from the madness of this weekend at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention. We’ll definitely get Simone to sign on this for sure!

More reasons to save for a (tokidoki) rainy day… Zakkamono’s newest creation combined with the visual goodies of Simone Legno is now up for pre-orders. Only 500 pieces of the tokidoki Miao and his companion Mousabi (such a cute onigiri!!) are available worldwide and you can also pre-order from earthx’s site. No prices available as yet on earthx but according to Plastic and Plush, tokidoki Miao is priced at USD$80 + shipping.

I haven’t made up my mind yet whether I would want to get this particular toy, it does look yummy and I have a soft spot for lucky cats. I just thought the design would be more more exciting or oriental to suit the toy… hrmmm but it is only limited to 500 IN THE WORLD… decisions decisions…
