Spreading the Tokidoki Love across Asia-Pacific and the world!

If we thought the preview night was tiring, nothing could have prepared us for the madness that was Day One at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention and especially at the tokidoki booth! We reached the event hall at 10.45am and was shocked to see three mega long queues… one for people who have not signed up, one for those who have and one to go into the event hall at 11am. These queues were snaking past the main event hall right to the next one as well! Daunted by the prospect of having to stand there for a good hour or so waiting so that our friends could get into the event as well, we decided to drop by Starbucks and wait it out till 11am.

The next time we went back up, the queue had more or less disappeared (apparently they decided to make a free for all event) and we could just walk into the hall without much interruption. We headed straight to the tokidoki booth to check out the situation and wow… there was already a crowd of people there (there were crowds of people everywhere anyway…) looking at the tokidoki apparel available. We got ourselves some tokidoki notebooks, stickers and uchiwas! As the first autograph session was not until half-hour later, we decided to walk around before popping by the booth again.

First stop was to visit the (crowded) StrangeCo store to grab the platinum SANDy and some other toys. Once that was done, I walked towards the Toy Store, still contemplating whether to grab the tokidoki Taberon, but decided that it did not appeal to my heartstrings so much for me to have to own it. By this time, more and more people were coming into the event hall because we were starting to squeeze our way around. We went round to the Play Imaginative’s booth and found out that the tokidoki Tofu we mentioned yesterday is actually one of the ’secret’ designs in the Play-Tofu series. They were selling it blind boxed so I decided not to get any YET *makes mental note to check it out at the stores later.

By the time we squeezed our way back to the tokidoki booth, we couldn’t see the table, we couldn’t see any place set up for the autograph session, it was pretty much confusion for us at least. So we stood around and waited until Simone Legno showed up at the booth. THAT was when the madness really, truly began for us… everyone thronged towards the glass display case that he was signing stuff on, there was no queue system in place, noone knew anything and everyone was just squashed as we all tried to get our items signed in the one hour available. I almost lost my left arm in the process as it was holding onto my big bag of stuff - stuck amongst the people in the crowd. Quite an unpleasant experience for all and even Simone as well as after a while of signing, he requested that everyone limit their items to one if possible. Guess he didn’t expect the situation would be like that! Scary. (Also the reason why we didn’t take any photos - no hands)

Once we got our items autographed, we made our way out immediately, moving past the crowd filled with comic and toy fans, parents with kids in tow, whilst trying not to get our feet mowed by the prams. After a longggg lunch break, we went back again for the second autograph session. This time, thankfully, the organizers told everyone to queue up for the autograph session, so we dutifully waited in line with our toys in hand. :)

As there was a ‘Meet and Greet’ session at Butter Factory at night, the booths were pretty much closed the moment the Walk-of-Fame artists (including tokidoki) left the event hall. Us Tokidokizens were so tired out from the whole day’s activities that we decided to take a rest for the night (yes we were very knackered).

So when I went back after dinner to see if i could grab myself a cap, I couldn’t (it was a last minute decision…) and the tokidoki Taberon is still tempting me from behind the glass display at the Toy Store. I did a quick check at the StrangeCo booth and saw that most of their stock of tokidoki vinyl toys have already been sold! If you want to get your hands on tokidoki items here at the STCC, you better be quick else they run out of stock!

Oh well, will try again today - yes I will brave the crowds again as well as check out the “Live Art Demo” at the tokidoki booth! We will leave you with a shot of the platinum/silver SANDy and Ciao Ciao - both autographed by Simone:

Have a great Sunday and see you at the convention!
