Spreading the Tokidoki Love across Asia-Pacific and the world!

We managed to get our hands on the two magazines that tokidoki has been featured in - Metropop (issue 36) and Computer Arts Project (isslue 116). Metropop magazine came with a surprise freebie as well, it’s an inflatable tokidoki + Onitsuka Tiger shoe to our combined amusement. Nonetheless it’s been done to look like the yellow high-cut sneaker (even the soles were the same!) so it’s a really good collectible. Our local bookstore had sold out on the issue so we managed to order ours via Atomic Books (an online US bookstore)!
Luckily there were plenty of copies of Computer Arts Project magazine for us to purchase :). The magazine had a pretty good spread for tokidoki - featuring many of his past projects and current collaborations as well. As the theme of the issue was on character illustrations and toy designs, you can find many other well-known toy designers featured as well. Truly an interesting read for anyone who wants to know how to start with toy design and illustration!

tokidoki’s collaboration with Onitsuka Tiger continues in 2009! They recently did a preview in the US and the upcoming tokidoki + Onitsuka Tiger collection looks fad with a combination of sneakers and slip-ons for the gals. Here are some sneak peeks we managed to find whilst trawling through the Internet:

For the ladies slip-ons, they all have the cute ribbon detail on the back, rubbery sole with inlay printing as well as tokidoki graphics on the inside. But each design features a different theme - black/pink is more punk rocker whereas the pink one has a sweet floral theme.

As for the sneakers, this time round tokidoki has continued with the normal style sneaker (no hi-cut versions) in different colour combinations as well as material. I personally like the version that’s covered in greyish brown suede (with the white tokidoki + Onitsuka Tiger icon on the back!) followed very closely by the classic white with blue and red stripes version. From the design, it seems like tokidoki was very influenced by the recent Olympics - the side featured a tokidoki Tiger holding a torch and running.

After ogling at these photos, we can’t wait for the tokidoki + Onitsuka shoes to be released here in Asia next year!

P.S. We’ve gotten our hands on tokidoki Bulletto! Pictures and unboxing to come~!! I’m highly excited…

If you were born during the 80s, then you would have known about Hasbro’s My Little Pony. Yes, the one with the long tail or mane that you can comb or do up the hair for etc. Well to celebrate the 25th birthday of My Little Pony (yes! It’s been that long!), Hasbro has asked well-known artists and designers around the world to customize their very own 18″ versions. tokidoki’s Simone Legno is one of the featured artists and his customized version features the tokidoki birds as well as Adios and Ciao Ciao. The pony is also covered ALL over with stripes in different tones of pink, very sweet looking.
All the customized ponies are already up for a charity auction (they’re one-of-a-kind) with a starting bid of US$500!

The “MY LITTLE PONY PROJECT: 25 Ponies for 25 Years” program is an international collection of 18” MY LITTLE PONY figures designed by popular culture’s influential people and organizations. The program was created not only to be a celebration of the whimsical nature of the brand, but also as a way to support Give Kids The World Village, a non-profit that strives to provide magical memories for children with life-threatening illnesses.

P.S. Been a bit busy over the past week to do much updating, but we’re back. If you were at the official tokidoki Concept Space launch, the Graphika Manila event and tokidoki signing session at Fresh Manila over the last week, do feel free to send us photos so that we can share it here at Tokidokizens!

As part of the Yahoo! “Start Wearing Purple” campaign, tokidoki has launched a limited edition purple apparel line sold exclusively at Start Wearing Purple. According to the Yahoo! rep who kindly sent us this piece of exciting news, the site is dedicated to a grassroots campaign that encourages people to embrace the color and spirit of purple.

Check out two of the tees in the range (we totally dig the tokidoki SANDY in purple tee!), as well as a gorgeous shot of Simone Legno sporting a purple cap and purple Adios star tee which I’d love to get my hands on!

The tees cost US$30 but at the moment it seems to be only available in the US - we tried to buy one but we only saw US states listed in the drop-down menu.
(However don’t fret coz we’ll update you once we have news that it will be shipped internationally as well!)

Together with the site, there’s also a series of videos of Simone Legno, one of which is this mini-documentary (you can catch a glimpse of the tokidoki office!):
An Interview with Creative Visionary, Simone Legno @ Yahoo! Video
You might want to watch the other videos as well. There are alot of tokidoki visual goodies featured in the videos so it’s quite enjoyable!
